The mission of Sprout Ministries is to provide free, nutritious meals to children in Florida ages 2-18. According to the website Feeding America, in the State of Florida, over 2,252,500 people are facing hunger, of that 660,500 are children. This means that 1 in every 6 children goes to bed hungry, which is staggering. Some of these children are your neighbors. Let that sit for a minute. Yes, here in the United States of America, children go hungry.

For years it has been a passion of my family and myself to serve our community. But we understand that we alone can’t do this. We are searching for people like yourself who want to make a difference and touch lives. We are looking for sponsors to help us defeat hunger in our communities. I live in Polk County. In this county alone, 91,770 children go to bed hungry.

 A few years ago, my wife, who worked at a high school, and my daughter, who worked at a middle school, fed the same family without knowing it. One Sunday, my wife asked my daughter to accompany her to deliver groceries to a student and her family. When they arrived at the family’s trailer, the children ran out excitedly and yelled, “hi, Miss Torres!” But my wife was confused as she didn’t know these children. When she looked over, my daughters’ eyes were filled with tears, these were her students! My wife fed the high schooler, and my daughter provided for the middle schoolers. God is good!
